Birds devour the fruit. The foliage is bright green to dark green. Eastern Red Cedar trees can grow on a variety of soils. The wood of the Red Cedar is fragrant and is used extensively for furniture. Its deep roots and small leaf surface make it very drought resistant. The fruit, or cone, is berrylike and dark blue. The Eastern Red Cedar, Juniperus Virginiana, is a small to medium-sized aromatic evergreen tree. It is the primary species in most windbreaks.
